Waking up to a big spot on your face is not the way we want to start our morning. We’ve all been there though and it’s time to tackle these nasty buggers once and for all.

Check out our top 6 tips to help you put an end to spots, pimples, nasties – whatever you call them – let’s get rid!

Keep Your Hands to Yourself

Our hands come into contact with more dirt and bacteria throughout the day than any other part of our body. Try avoid touching your face to reduce the spread of bacteria and risking infection. Even when you do feel a spot arising DO NOT TOUCH IT. You will only cause it to become irritated and inflamed and probably worsening the appearance of it and prolong the healing time.

Up Your Water Intake

Drinking water has many benefits for your skin and body’s overall health. It flushes harmful toxins from the system, preventing them from building up and causing skin problems. Water also helps ensure the proper function of the skin’s metabolism and allows it to regenerate itself. Try to drink 2 litres of water a day to see the difference.

Clean Your Makeup Brushes Regularly

You cleaned your brushes one month then somehow completely forget for the next six? Girl it’s time to get into a routine and stick to it! Your makeup tools get built-up with oils and are bacteria central and if you keep using the same brush/sponge on your face it’s not going to do you any favours. You should wash them at least once a fortnight. Set a reminder on your phone, scribble it on a post it – just do what you gotta do to remember and make sure you keep on top of it!

Wipe Your Phone Screen

Your phone is literally in your hand for most of the day. Whether your scrolling through Instagram, taking Snaps or catching up with your bestie with a long phone call, your phone is constanty being touched and let’s not forget where you put your phone… On the desk at work? The kitchen top? What about when it falls on the floor! The bacterial is real girl so every night before bed just rub an antibacterial wipe over the screen.

Avoid Overloading Your Skin with Products

We are firm believers that less is more and to try keep things as natural as possible. There are so many creams, lotions and gels that are recommended for clear skin but the reality is that all these lotions and potions just clog up your pores and can actually lead to breakouts! So just make sure that if you do use any facial products use them sparingly. Which leads us to the next point…

Avoid Heavy Makeup

Try to keep your normal day-to-day look as light as possible. For some people they can wear all the makeup they want and never have a problem. However, if you know you are prone to breakouts then the sensible thing to do is to keep it simple. Just a BB cream and a nice lippy can do the job, try to avoid layering your skin with primer, foundation, blush etc.
