If you suffer from dry hair and hair loss maybe it’s time to start using sodium laurel sulphate or sodium laureate sulphate (SLS) free shampoos.
These two surfactants (or detergents) are the most foamy and cut through grease fastest, BUT they are also very good at drying out the scalp and hair and in some cases can cause irritation.
There are lots of milder surfactants in shampoos you can try out. Below are our top five choices:
- Wella Professional Elements Renewing Shampoo, £14.50
This is Wella’s first ever ‘free of’ range. The gentle foaming formula gives you a clean-feel while adding moisture and shine, perfect for dry hair.
- The Body Shop Rainforest Volumising Shampoo, £2
This one lathers up really well for an SLS-free shampoo. It’s also silicones, parabens and colourants free! It leaves hair light, bouncy and soft.
- Aveda Shampure Shampoo, £13.50
Aveda’s entire shampoo line-up is SLS-free and there’s something for everyone! So whether you want to keep your curls in check, add volume, preserve colour, smooth and soften or remove product build-up – there will be something you can buy and try!
