Every girl wants the wedding dress of their dreams. Whether you’re an English bride looking for a white, lace gown or an Asian bride looking for an embellished, red lengha – dress hunting is equally as stressful in every culture! Team Impression have compiled a few DO’s and DON’TS for all you brides-to-be:
- Do focus first on finding the best wedding dress silhouette for you
The details are important when it comes to your wedding dress. But before you start nit-picking the details such as sequins or no sequins, ruffled hem or no ruffled hem, sweetheart neckline or square neckline etc.… You need to first figure out the silhouette that works best for your body shape, focus on your personal style and what compliments your figure the most.
- Do take photos in each shop (if allowed)
Photograph your dress possibilities instead of putting all your trust in the mirror. That way you can go home and look through your photos and you’ll be able to see the one that standouts the most.
- Do wear a nicely fitted bra when you’re trying on wedding dresses
We’ll just let you know now that on wedding dress try-on day, you’re going to be spending a lot of time in your undies! A well-fitting bra helps you in your search for a dress and it makes all the difference in terms of shape of fitting.
- Do ask lots of questions while trying on wedding dresses
Make sure you ask the staff plenty of questions in terms of making any adjustments and time-scales etc. However, you should ask yourself a few questions too. Make sure the dress you love not only makes you feel amazing but also works for you to wear ALL day. Some questions to consider are: Do I feel beautiful, confident and comfortable? Can I dance in it? Can I sit down in it? Am I self-conscious about any part of my body in my dress?
- Don’t go wedding dress shopping late in the day
The early bird gets the worm! In this case, the early bride gets an energetic, enthusiastic bridal shop staff that hasn’t dealt with the concerns of a million clients already. Plus, if you get the first appointment of the morning, the shop will likely be less crowded and you’ll get the full attention of the staff members.
- Don’t pick a wedding dress just because it’s trendy now
Trendy wedding dresses won’t necessarily stand the test of time. They might look fashionable now but when you flick through your wedding photos in 20 years’ time you want to see a timeless classic. Try go for a dress that has both modern and traditional elements that will never go out of style.
- Don’t try on too many wedding dresses
Try to stay away from wedding dress overload! You really don’t need to try on 10 dresses at every bridal store you visit. Too many choices can add even more stress and confusion and we don’t want that!
- Don’t feel like you need to bring an audience when you try on wedding dresses
Wedding TV shows make it look like you need to bring every one of your female relatives, your next-door-neighbour and your aunties poodle with you to help. But you really don’t! Taking too much people can result in too many opinions and you end up feeling even more confused!
All in all, just remember to go with your heart, usually the first one you see and LOVE is the one you end up buying. So try to go with your gut instinct and don’t worry too much!
