Waxing is Too Painful

FACT: You’re pulling hair out from the root so of course it’s going to be painful to some degree. But it all comes down to your personal pain threshold and who you’re getting it done by. If it’s a professional from a salon, chances are it’ll be less painful compared to your not-so-professional best mate. The best way to make your waxing experience less painful is to be regular. By having frequent sessions, every 4 weeks, you will find it less painful and see better overall results!

Top Tip – three days prior to menstruation women are known to be more sensitive so avoid waxing then.

Hair Has to be a Certain Length to Wax

FACT: For the best results your hair should be 1/4-inch to 1/2-inch. Any shorter than this and the wax will struggle to grip and remove the hair. If your hair is longer than this, then it can be more painful and there is a higher chance that some hairs will be missed. If this is the case, then you can trim your hair to get it to the ideal length.

Waxing is Dangerous for Your Skin

FACT: Waxing may cause some minor side effects like some redness or slight swelling. However, these will disappear within hours. Waxing does not cause any type of long-term damage to your skin.

Waxing from a Young Age Means No Hair as You Get Older

FACT: Waxing is not a guarantee for permanent hair removal. It does help to reduce the hair over the years of frequent waxing. Although this depends on your skin and hair type.

Waxing Your Face Will Stretch the Skin

FACT: As long as you (or the professional) holds your skin as taught as possible when removing the wax strip you’ll be fine! You want the least amount of skin movement as possible. However, if you waxed your face every single day then chances are your skin would stretch to some degree from the continuous action.

Waxing Means you get Ingrown Hairs

FACT: Follow the aftercare below and your chances of getting ingrown hairs are very slim. These are all things to avoid for 24-48 hours on the waxed areas:

  • Touching the freshly waxed area
  • Use of exfoliating products
  • Direct sun exposure and tanning beds
  • Excessive heat, such as that from hot tubs and saunas. Limit your time having a warm shower time
  • Creams with fragrance or ingredients that may irritate
  • Deodorant, spray or perfume on the skin
  • Wearing tight clothing
  • Exercise is a no no, as it causes chaffing and sweating
